Extra Graft XG-13© is a natural bone substitute, which combines the ideal osteoconductive properties of hydroxyapatite and collagen type I. Bovine organic-free hydroxyapatite granules (200 – 400 µm) present similar physicochemical properties to human bone structure and provides a highly bioactive surface for cell migration that is naturally remodeled in a physiologic process. Collagen type I, with its excellent biocompatibility and 3D organization, is an important carrier for bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) and serves as the gold-standard scaffold for both osteoprogenitor and endothelial cells rapid migration and accelerated bone regeneration. Due to its composition (hydroxyapatite granules + collagen type I scaffold), clinical and pre-clinical studies have proven Extra Graft XG-13© to be a superior bone substitute to be used in the oral and maxillofacial surgeries. .... | | | Scanning electron microscopy of the hydroxyapatite granules (A) and collagen-hydroxyapatite matrix (B) | Rodrigues CVM, Serricella P, Linhares ABR, Guerdes RM, Borojevic R, Rossi MA, Duarte MEL, Farina M. Characterization of a bovine collagen-hydroxyapatite composite scaffold for bone tissue engineering. Biomaterials 2003; 24: 4987- 4997. Why use Extra Graft XG-13© bone substitute? - Easy to handle and to adapt to the bone defect;
- Promotes rapid migration of both osteoprogenitor and endothelial cells;
- Three dimensional collagen structure facilitates optimal revascularization;
- Hydroxyapatite granules are slowly resorbed, maintaining bone volume during physiological tissue remodeling;
- Collagen haemostatic properties promote clot stabilization and avoid excessive bleeding.
